As my first engineering credit and the opener for the ’23/’24 Jacobs Mainstage Season for the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, I assisted on the production of The Merry Widow by Franz Lehár. In this production, I worked with the other engineers to set up and deploy an array of microphones to capture the pit orchestra and cast. Just in the pit alone, over twenty mics were used for live streaming and recording the performance for archival purposes.
With Jimmy Diskin designing the recording mics, we utilized a variety of mics such as the Rode NT6, Crown Models PZM-30FS, and Schoeps MK22/MK41s. Cast also wore mics controlled by FOH mixer Jacob Bauman and only used for amplification/recording during dialogue.
