Head Sound Designer / Board Operator
NOVEMBER 2021
The Ash Girl served as my first high school production. In an environment re-entering society after COVID, I joined the Rowe Theatre company in an effort to indulge myself in the performing arts industry. Despite it being my first show, I quickly became the head of sound since I remained persistent to the development of the production. In the end however, I adapted to the ever-changing circumstances and ran the show as the sole sound crew member.
Upon receiving the script, I close-read each scene, analyzing every word and its intention. Through this, I was able to use my imagination and watch the show play out in my head and annotate what sound should be supporting the scene. For your information, the show is essentially a rendition of the story of Cinderella except it shows her mental awareness and how her internal struggles influence her. Keeping this in mind, I designed the sound environment for different settings such as an ominous forest, a king’s palace, and the royal ball.
It was during this time where I gained my first interaction with softwares that make it possible to run/design the show. This includes QLab and GarageBand. Despite it was my first time using them, since I had longtime experience with technology, it wasn’t a challenge to navigate their interface and grow accustomed to them.
