Mojada: A Medea in Los Angeles (Play)

Sound Designer / Board Operator & Poster Designer

MARCH 2022

(OUTSTANDING TECHNICIAN AWARD)

2022 UIL Competition Recipient

Mojada served as my high school theatre company’s selection for the UIL One-Act Play competition. Due to the fast-paced nature of the competition, I was exposed to the culture of touring productions. When it was time to compete, we would pack up every aspect of our show, including set, lights, and sound, and take it to a different school where we would perform it for an audience of other theatre companies and a panel of judges.

My role in this production was to design and curate sound for the 45 minute play and prepare my work to be portable to other performing venues.

Mojada is a story that despite it’s referencing of witchcraft, is very real and has never been more relevant. While ensuring I followed the strict UIL guidelines, the show was designed to incorporate the mystical elements while maintaining a sense of reality. Since the topic of immigration and the consequences that come from it are daily struggles for some people, it felt important that the scoring influence, was minimal. I constantly thought “Let the actors try to convince that the story is real. The music will just be a part of that story.”

Alongside the sound operations, I also designed the posters for the public performances and social media promotion.
