Asst. Stage Manager, Sound Designer / Board Operator, Marketing, & Asst. Scenic Designer
JANUARY 2022
(BEST SOUND DESIGN OF A MUSICAL)
2022 The Palm Awards Nominee
(BEST PRODUCTION OF A MUSICAL)
Being a part of the production of Little Shop of Horrors was a great honor. It marked my second production and first high school musical. I was appointed as an assistant stage manager due to my demonstrated dependability to the directors. This role required flexibility and the ability to take charge of all departments. While guiding the cast through stage directions, I also oversaw the work in the sound, lighting, set, and marketing departments. Approximately two weeks before the show, I had to take over the sound department after the previous board operator tested positive for COVID.
During those two weeks, I gained experience in microphone operation, including EQing, spatial awareness, input/output patching, vocal effects, and channel frequency tuning. I had to quickly adapt to the change in department and began rehearsing the show while operating the mixing live. Simultaneously, I coordinated the show tracks, which included some sound designs of my own, such as a motorcycle appearance and gunshots.
Additionally, I contributed to the marketing team by designing the main poster for the show, designing scenic posters featured on the set to compliment the time period, creating social media posts for The Palms Awards season, and producing invitational cards for other theatre companies to attend the show.
