(BEST PRODUCTION OF A MUSICAL)
For the last musical production of my high school’s theatre season, my responsibilities ranged from working on sound, marketing, poster design and managing the box office.
I wanted to prepare the future of the company to be more capable than before and find ways to take our level of production even further. This show took a lot of experimentation and learning about microphone techniques since some of the songs are demanding and required changes. One of the changes I introduced was the use of PointSource’s miniature lavalier mics. For the actors who belt, we could now swap out the normal face mics for ones that are attached to their forehead, reducing signal clipping.
I also began training on how to accomplish multitrack recording using the input signal coming through the sound system and capturing it on a computer for archival purposes. Access to input recording technology allowed me to record “Paciencia Y Fe” from the show, as available above. While the recording mentioned was not done using multitrack techniques specifically, I was able to isolate parts of the composite recording to mix it to how you hear it in the video provided.
