For Die Fledermaus, the opera consists of a mixture of operatic and theatric (speaking) parts. My role as FOH engineer focused on amplifying the scenes with spoken dialogue and providing a monitor mix for the performers on stage using an Allen & Heath Avantis console and an L-Acoustics L-ISA PA system. In addition, we also provided an archival recording using a deployment of microphones throughout the hall to capture the live orchestra onstage as well as the actor operatic voices.
